Moved into a home or unit that already has a DoorBird video intercom installed, but don't have any login info, QR code, or paperwork from the previous resident? You're not locked out for good. Here's how to establish your own account access when you're starting from zero.
Why you can't just log in with the existing device
A DoorBird unit is tied to the account that originally set it up, not to the address. Without the previous owner's credentials or a proper ownership transfer, you can't simply open the app and start controlling the device — and that's by design. It's the same reason you can't use someone else's phone just because you're standing next to it. The good news is that DB Store USA can help you establish legitimate ownership even without any information from the prior resident.
Step 1: Create your own DoorBird app account
If you don't already have one, download the DoorBird app and create a new account with your own email address. This will be the account the device gets transferred into, so use an email you'll keep long-term.
Step 2: Gather what you can about the device
Before reaching out for help, collect whatever information is available on-site:
- The device's serial number, usually printed on a label on the back or side of the unit, or sometimes on the original mounting bracket.
- The property address and unit number, if applicable.
- Any leftover documentation from the seller or landlord — a manual, box, or install notes, even if there's no login info in them.
Don't worry if you can't find a QR code, digital passport, or any account details. Those belonged to the previous owner and wouldn't help you anyway — you're not trying to log into their account, you're establishing a new one.
Step 3: Contact DB Store USA to request ownership transfer
Reach out to our support team and let us know you're a new resident with no prior account access. We'll ask you to verify that you're the legitimate current owner or tenant, typically with one of the following:
- Closing or settlement documents from your home purchase
- A signed lease agreement showing your name and the property address
- A recent utility bill or piece of official mail at the property in your name
You can submit these documents securely — see our article on secure document upload for details on how that process works.
Step 4: We reassign the device to your account
Once your ownership is verified, DB Store USA works with you to release the device from the previous account and link it to yours. Depending on the situation, this may involve a factory reset of the unit so it comes back online clean and ready to pair with your account from scratch.
Step 5: Lock down and personalize the device
Once the DoorBird is on your account:
- Set a new admin password immediately.
- Clear out any RFID fobs, keypad codes, or authorized app users left over from before — assume none of them should still work.
- Reconnect the unit to your own WiFi network if it was previously on someone else's.
- Add household members and set up motion alerts, schedules, and a cloud recording plan to fit how you use the space.
If the previous owner is still reachable
If you're able to contact the seller, landlord, or prior tenant, it's often faster to have them initiate a standard transfer from their side — see our article on transferring ownership when buying or selling a home. But if that's not an option, the verification path above works just as well and doesn't require their involvement.
