Lost the QR code or digital passport that came with your DoorBird, and now can't figure out how to get back into admin settings on your device? This article explains what that QR code actually does, why it matters, and how to request a replacement through DB Store USA.
What is the DoorBird QR code / digital passport?
Every DoorBird unit ships with a unique QR code — sometimes referred to as the device's digital passport — that's used to identify and claim the device during initial setup. Scanning it with the DoorBird app links that specific piece of hardware to your account, confirming that you're the one setting it up rather than someone else on the network. It typically comes printed on a card in the box, and sometimes also on a label on the unit itself or its packaging.
Why it matters for admin access
The QR code isn't just a convenience for the first setup — it's tied to the device's underlying identity credentials. You may need it again later if you:
- Reset the device to factory settings and need to re-pair it
- Are transferring ownership to a new resident and need to re-claim or re-link the unit
- Lost admin access after an app reinstall, phone change, or account issue and need to re-establish the connection from scratch
Without it, re-adding a reset or transferred device to an account can be significantly more difficult, since the app has no automatic way to confirm the device belongs to you.
What to do if you've lost it
If your QR code or digital passport card has been misplaced, thrown out, or damaged, don't try to guess at the codes or search for it online — device credentials are unique to your hardware and can't be recreated from a generic template. Instead:
- Locate your device's serial number. This is usually printed directly on the DoorBird unit, often on a sticker on the back, bottom, or inside the mounting plate.
- Contact DB Store USA support with your serial number and account details (or your ownership verification, if you're not yet linked to the device — see our article on getting access as a new owner).
- Complete an ownership check. Since the QR code grants meaningful control over the device, we verify that you're the legitimate account holder or property owner before issuing a replacement, in order to keep your device secure from unauthorized claims.
- Receive your replacement digital passport. Once verified, we'll issue you a new QR code/passport tied to your device and account, which you can use the same way as the original.
A few tips to avoid needing this again
- Take a photo of the QR code card and store it somewhere safe, like a password manager or a home documents folder, as soon as you set up the device.
- If you're selling your home or moving out, pass along the physical card (or a copy of the code) to the incoming owner as part of the ownership transfer — it saves them a step.
- Avoid throwing away the original packaging until the device has been fully set up and confirmed working on your account.
